RED ALERT FOR MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION

Hi nurses,

Hope your week is going well. I recently read an article about a nurse infusing an epidural analgesia instead of an antibiotic. It resulted in the death of the patient. It is not my place to judge the circumstance, as I was not there.

Here are some helpful hints:
- CHECK MD ORDER

- FOLLOW YOUR INSTITUTION'S POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
FOR ADMINISTRATION OF NARCOTIC DRIPS
- AVOID RUSHING WHEN CHECKING MEDS.
- AVOID CHECKING ORDERS AND TALKING ON THE PHONE.
- IT IS OKAY TO BE OVERLY CAUTIOUS WHEN PASSING MEDS.

My heart goes out to the poor nurse who is involved.
